The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) is pleased to announce that Greg Anton, CPA, CGMA, former chair of its board of directors, is the recipient of the Institute’s 2015 Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service.
The Gold Medal is the highest award granted by the AICPA and is given to CPAs who have made major contributions to the CPA profession. Anton received the award at the fall meeting of the AICPA governing Council. Kathy Johnson, CPA, a member of the awards committee, presented the award.
“Greg has significantly contributed to the growth and success of the accounting profession throughout his distinguished career,” Johnson said. “A dedicated, passionate volunteer, Greg has demonstrated his leadership and commitment to the profession through numerous activities with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Colorado Society of CPAs, and as a representative for the United States profession with the International Federation of Accountants. As one of the youngest chairs in the history of the AICPA board of directors, Greg led the Institute during its 125th anniversary year.”
Anton is chairman and CEO of Anton Collins Mitchell LLP, with offices in Denver, Boulder and northern Colorado. During his career, he has provided accounting and auditing services to private, public and multinational businesses. He also has consulted on debt and equity offerings and various IPOs.
From 2011-2012, Anton served as chair of the AICPA’s Board of Directors, which now represents approximately 412,000 members worldwide. He served on the board from 2006-2009 and 2010-2013, and presently serves as part of the AICPA delegation to the International Federation of Accountants. He is the founder of the Institute’s “What’s at Stake” initiative, which promotes federal fiscal responsibility.
Anton served as chair of the Colorado Society of CPAs (COCPA) during its centennial year. He co-chaired the COCPA’s Foundation’s Centennial Scholarship Campaign, which raised over one million dollars for college accounting scholarships. He is past president of the University of Northern Colorado’s Alumni Association and also served as past chair of the school’s Accountancy Advisory Board.
Anton has been recognized by the Denver Business Journal as a top business newsmaker, and by numerous other publications as a key influencer within the profession. In 2013, Greg received the COCPA’s Distinguished Service Award for his significant and lasting contributions to the CPA profession.
His philanthropic activities include: founding member and Managing Board Vice-Chair of Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC), Board of Trustees, Mile High United Way, Board of Directors, Junior Achievement–Rocky Mountain, Inc., Board of Directors, Wish of a Lifetime and member of Colorado Concern. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Northern Colorado.
